Bronwen Kettleson was initially drawn to yoga to compliment her pursuits in the performing arts and her interests in health and wellness while living in Vancouver, Canada. In 2005, she began to study Yoga with her powerfully influential teacher Carla Wainwright through South Okanagan Yoga Association’s 500 RYT interdisciplinary program that culminated in a final project and blog that drew on Yoga therapy for common issues surrounding financial speculators and traders. She furthered her knowledge of Ayurveda and Yoga therapy with Dr. Ganesh Mohan and through a 300 hour program with Dr. David Frawley. Bronwen has also undertaken studies in Sanskrit and Indian philosophy with Vijyaya Kumar and, currently, with the Svastha organization.
Bronwen was introduced to Ashtanga yoga by classes with Andrea Martinez while living in Buenos Aires. She became more disciplined towards the practice a month later after attending workshops with Lino Miele and Sara Dubois. She maintained practice throughout her travels in South America and then moved to Oslo, Norway where she practiced for the next two years under Alexander Medin and Basia Lipska-Larsen. Basia has been a great inspiration to Bronwen in both her practice and development as a teacher. Bronwen has assisted Basia at her studio MysoreOslo and at Purple Valley Yoga Retreat in Goa, India.
While living in Oslo, Bronwen attended a training at Triopetra Yoga in Crete with Manju Jois, the eldest son of the Guru of Ashtanga Yoga, who has become her authority of Ashtanga Yoga. She went on to attend several primary and intermediate series teacher trainings with Manju again in Crete, Bologna, Italy and Hawaii. She is dedicated to study and teach in accordance with Manju’s traditional approach to Ashtanga yoga, incorporating pranayama exercises and shanti mantras into practice. In November of 2011 in Maui, Manu Jois encouraged to continue passing on his teachings of Traditional Ashtanga Yoga.
Bronwen has taken numerous workshops with other notable yoga practitioners including: Dharma Mittra; Sadie Nardini; Edward Clarke of Tripsicore Yoga; Twee Merigan; Mark Darby; Matt and Dominique Corigliano; Susan Hately Aldous and many others. She also has training in Pilates with STOTT and the Franklin Method with Noam Gagnon. She keeps her interests in dance with occasional performances and choreography contracts. Bronwen has recently broadened her passion for movement through sessions in gymnastics and Pole Fit and is looking forward to ongoing studies in the aerial arts.
Bronwen moved back to B.C. from Whitehorse, Yukon during the summer of 2012. She now resides in Kamloops, B.C.
